This week the UK has seen a complete turnaround in the weather and although I did pick up a new coat (oops), I’m sure some of you are preparing to jet off to wonderful locations. Cue the jealousy…
In light of this, here is my list of top ten essentials that you must take with you on your travels:
1. Reliable hand luggage
We have all had that moment of panic at check–in. The assistant eyes your bag and you know the dreaded words are about to spill out of her mouth. The thought of leaving behind any precious items is heart-wrenching, so plan ahead. Make sure you check the airline’s guidelines and pick up a great holdall that won’t cause a holdup. Brands like Mulberry, Louis Vuitton and United Colors of Benetton do a great luggage range that is perfect for weekends away or longer breaks.
2. Fashion mags!
Be sure to purchase these from the airside departures zone. There’s no point adding to the weight of your bag for check-in. Stock up on a few glossies such as Vogue, Cosmo and Glamour and you should be good to go. I always grab a copy of Glamour from the country I am visiting for a keepsake.
3. Large fedora
Very Carrie Bradshaw, but then I’m sure that we could all learn a thing or two from this seasoned pro. A hat is a must-have holiday essential – not only for protection against the sun, but as a barrier between you and those pesky holiday reps that swarm like tropical mosquitoes. Bloggers always have their trusty hat to hand, so make sure you pack yours.
4. Statement Shoes
My choice? Valentino Rockstud heels – in black, of course. The romantic style of this shoe is given a twist with the studs that edge the leather. They have been so popular and were sold out online for a huge amount of time. Fail-safe shoes are perfect for summer evening meals, dates or city shopping. The key is to pick a pair that will co-ordinate with most of your outfits.
5. Sunglasses
Different options are a must. I have fallen in love with Celine’s New Audrey in Tortoiseshell – just perfect! Still, I always pack my trusty pair of back Ray-Bans and maybe a bright, crazy pair a-la Cara Delevingne for evenings by the beach drinking cocktails.
6. Lip balm
Hot air can dry out your skin, and besides, you never know who will be sat next to you on the plane!
7. Note Pad & Pen
These are great carry-on essentials. Jot down your thoughts and feelings or cut to the chase and write a list of 10 things you will do while you’re away! Number 1: find your local shopping mall. Lanvin does a great black and white faces A5 notebook.
8. iPhone
Ensure this is filled to the brim with great music, games and books. If you want to read something a little bit different, download a few stories via Wattpad. This place is great for up-and-coming authors. Radio 1 is where I go for holiday-ready playlists – especially important if you are heading to Ibiza. Your smart phone can also double as your camera, which is great if you intend to document your every move on Instagram!
9. A Great Moisturiser
Your skin can really dehydrate on the plane, especially if you decide to have a cheeky Vodka to ease the journey in. I could suggest so many great moisturisers, however this summer I’m sticking to Clinique’s new Dramatically Different Lotion. This is a new formula that helps to strengthen the skin’s own moisture barrier. Soft skin with a healthy glow is exactly what you want!
10. Warm socks!
You may laugh, but air-conditioning on-board aircraft can be a nightmare, and there’s no point in suffering.
