Everyone and I mean, E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E has clothes, shoes, or accessories that are no longer wanted, don’t fit and believe it or not, still has tags. Less than two days ago I was amazed by a quite fashionable friend’s , cluelessness on one particular way to beneficially get rid of unwanted clothes. The concept was unheard of to her; AND trust me, if she doesn’t know, I imagined how many individuals don’t as well. So I decided to do this post on 6 ways things to do with items you don’t want or use in your closet. Now unless you are a hoarder of things you won’t ever use, you may find this post extremely helpful. Here are some helpful ideas on how to “JUST LET THEM GO”…..
Donate To Thrift Or Charity – Charitable Option
Yes, just like Macklemore ’s song. A thrift shop is a retail establishment that accepts donated goods from the public and resells them to people and families, often for few dollars per item. These great places are very beneficial to individuals or families of little or no income. Taking your belonging directly to your favorite charity or nearby shelter is an excellent idea as well.
Good Spots – Goodwill, Salvation Army, Red Cross, Oxfam, Humana Second HandConsignment– Profitable Option
When consigning your goods, you are giving them to a consignment retailer that will attempt to sell your item(s) on your behalf. Once or if the item is sold they will pay you the agreed upon percentage of the sale. This option is really good if you have authentic, designer pieces such as Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Chanel or any other designer names but you can also find non-designer consigners. Find your nearest shop or jump right online and google for an online consigner.
Good Spots | Brick and Mortar Consignment Shops – Second Time Around, Trunk Show Designer Consignment, BIS Designer Resale, The Consignment Bar, Consign Of The Times, The Dresser, Pandora Dress Agency, RagTag | Online Consignment Shops – The RealReal, Threadflip, Poshmark, ShopHersTrade – Exchange Option
An old concept but now chic in fashion is trading your shoes, bags, clothes and accessories for those of another fashionista. You may opt to look for such an event happening near you or possibly setting up your own but it probably more convenient to go online.
Good Spots – Bib + TuckTailor or DIY – Re-Invent Option
Combine your creativity with clothes that no longer fit or that your bored of and take them to a tailor or DIY for a whole new look. I have done this option to many of my own clothes and wear them more than before. Whether they need a little nip and tuck or complete transformation, tailoring or diy is a good way to take something that has good qualities and turn it into something awesome.
Vintage – Historical Yet Profitable Option
Indeed, fashion does repeat itself and for those really interested in fashion history, vintage is the way to go and a way for you to profit. If you have a few pre-early 1990′s pieces then taking them to a vintage retailer may be a good idea or if you have time and patience and knowledge about the eras then selling them yourself may be another.
Good Spots – C. Madeleines, New York Vintage, One Of A Kind, The Way We Wore, Buttons and Bows or sell yourself online on ETSYHand Me Down – We All Know This Option
Your closet of unwanted stuff meets family, friends, neighbors etc. No other explanation needed.
